I’ve always been an animal person, riding with my sister on a cattle ranch, then trail and endurance riding with friends and exploring multiple horsemanship philosophies and disciplines along the way.
An interest in how horses perform and process their surroundings really started to take off when I got a quirky Arabian gelding with a lot of physical tension and emotional dysregulation, and I wanted to help him relax, feel better, and perform better. A Masterson Method® demo at an endurance ride early on planted a seed, then a serendipitous occasion to watch Jim Masterson teach at a clinic in Arizona clinched it for me to learn these techniques and pursue certification as a Masterson Method Certified Practitioner.
The principle of doing something with the horse (vs to the horse) to facilitate relaxation and tension relief and to promote nervous-system regulation, improve performance and connection with the animal, inspires me. I serve horses (ponies, mules and donkeys, too) around Quesnel, Williams Lake, out to the Chilcotin and to Prince George, with occasional visits to Chetwynd.
