Sue Smith is an avid dressage rider and thoroughbred advocate with over thirty years’ experience in the industry. She earned her USDF Bronze Medal and has since been working to develop her young horses, as well as promote thoroughbreds in sport. Her focus on sports performance and transitioning thoroughbreds from racing into second careers guided her to an interest in equine bodywork. She began her journey by becoming a Certified Equine Massage Therapist through the Animal Rehab Institute in Loxahatchee, FL, as well as obtaining her Level 3 PEMF certification through Pulse PEMF. Additionally, she worked directly with Wendy Murdoch of SURE FOOT Equine Stability Program to become one of few Hoof 3 authorized practitioners in the US. Driven by her desire to help her own horses and others, she immersed herself in The Masterson Method®, gravitating to the light touch techniques and philosophy of engaging the horse in the bodywork sessions.
A thoroughbred advocate, Sue continues to hold the role of Executive Director for CANTER PA, a non-profit organization dedicated to safely re-home horses retiring from racing. She previously held the position of Board Chair for the Retired Racehorse Project, assisting in Thoroughbred Aftercare by increasing the demand for off track thoroughbreds in sport. In addition, Sue has held board positions with CANTER USA, the International Equestrian Organization and the Thoroughbred Alliance Show Series. She has also published numerous articles and photos relating to safely transitioning thoroughbreds into new homes. Sue’s hope is to help horses and riders, utilizing the Masterson Method to help fill the gap between her concern for horse welfare and her interest in sport.
