There’s something deeply intuitive about the connection you feel when you’re around horses. I experienced that bond the very first time I sat atop a horse at an early age—and from that moment on, I never looked back.

My journey began with purchasing a horse I truly knew little about, and from there, it evolved into learning to ride, learning to train (out of necessity, since I could not afford a trainer), jumping, working cattle, and horse camping from the Ocean to the Sierras. I was fortunate to have owned many different breeds along with many rescues.  Over the years, that journey has brought me excitement, fear, and pure joy—each moment reinforcing the deep connection I feel with these incredible animals.

After many years in the saddle, I felt it was time to slow down and give back, while still maintaining that sense of connection. Through practicing the Masterson Method of equine bodywork, I’ve discovered another meaningful way to connect with horses. With the Masterson Method®, you work with the horses to release built-up tension and stress, often before it affects their movement and/or it manifests as lameness and leads to them being overlooked or undervalued and sometimes put down. The transformation is visible—not only in their improved mobility, but also in their softened facial expressions and a relaxed, receptive attitude. Using the Masterson Method, I can feel their response of letting go of the tension—not just physically, but emotionally. It is a quiet, powerful exchange of trust and gratitude that reminds me of why I fell in love with horses. When using this method of therapy, you can relieve that accumulated tension and see the change in their attitude, their movements because they can now move freely without that hidden pain that has become a restriction.

After seeing the result at my training in Masterson Method, I was hooked. With Masterson Method the horse participates with you in a relaxed state, it’s not something we do to the horse, but something we do with the horse — together. To me, this means just as much to the horse. This non-aggressive method allows the horse to trust we will not poke or do anything that will cause pain. These techniques release tension in stressed areas such as the Poll-Atlas, Neck-Shoulder-Withers, and Hind-End Junction.

I’ve worked with horses of all breeds and disciplines — from working and show horses to pleasure and retired companions. No matter their background, the transformation is clear: under saddle or at liberty, they move with greater freedom, walk straighter, take the correct lead, show more forward momentum, and exhibit fewer behavioral issues like biting. Most importantly, they become happier, willing partners.
