I cannot remember a time in my life that I didn’t have a love of horses. From the time I could read I devoured everything about them. Any opportunities to be around them I jumped in. It was not until I was 18 years old that I finally had my own. Sea Breeze was a 10 month old Arabian mare who was very much an Alpha her entire life and was my reason for pursuing more in my education. She was my heart horse. She was very versatile and anything I decided to do she was more than willing. When she was 14 we started doing 50 mile endurance rides. We enjoyed them very much.
I graduated from the Eastern School of Farriery in 1988 after having dealt with farriers that would never show up. I had decided that if I liked doing it I could continue in a business and if not I could at least do my own horses. I worked professionally in this capacity until just recently. I also finished Reiki Master certification in 2009 and I received my certification in Canine Massage (CTMT) from the Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure and Massage in 2013.
My passion has always been training and I was blessed to have been able to become Certified by John Lyons in 1998 in a special Advanced Training Certification that was only meant for individuals that had been working professionally for at least 8 years and he handpicked for the program. Later on I was also a part of his Select Trainers.
During my years training I was always trying to pinpoint why some of these horses would come in with such behavioral issues. Was it their handling that they had had up to this point? These horses were usually sent to me as their last chance. I wanted to have more tools in my toolbox to be able to see if there was something physical or off course with tack, teeth etc. that was causing these behaviors. I needed to rule these things out. Sometimes the veterinarians couldn’t find anything that was physically wrong with them.
I came across Jim Masterson in 2012 and was very interested in learning more about The Masterson Method®. After watching some of Jim’s videos on my slow, buffering internet, I bought his book and DVDs so I could see them in real time. I started using The Bladder Meridian Technique and other techniques that I had learned about and saw changes in horses. Finally in 2018 I was able to go to my first weekend course and later the Advanced where I decided to pursue the Certification. I completed my Certification in January 2022.
Every day I spend working on horses with The Masterson Method I feel so happy being able to help them relax, feel more in tune with themselves and relieve areas in their bodies that have troubled them, sometimes for a very long time. I have seen horses with a lot of emotional trauma be able to finally become more trusting again.
