Except for a couple trail rides as a teenager, Anne’s introduction to horses didn’t begin until her 30s, when she took a few riding lessons with the kids in preparation for a trail ride on a family vacation in Alberta. What started as a one-time adventure turned into a lifelong journey with horses.
With a young family and a busy career as a technical project manager in high tech, Anne cherished her time at the barn, learning about horses and learning to ride, but best of all just being with the horse. In December of 2019, her daughter introduced her to the Masterson Method® (MM) with the gift of the Beyond Horse Massage book. Anne tried the Bladder Meridian with the school horses at her barn, and she was amazed at how they would connect and relax using such a light touch. She experimented with the other MM techniques and when COVID restrictions started to lift, she began formal MM training. After retiring in October 2022, she went on to fieldwork and became a Masterson Method Certified Practitioner in 2024.
By working with many different horses, Anne learned how to read and respond to even the most subtle responses in the horse’s body. Remi, a sweet Percheron Paint cross that Anne has been leasing for 3 years, has been a wonderful teacher. And with Remi, Anne gets direct and immediate feedback on her work, both in and out of the saddle. He enjoys the bodywork and often tells Anne exactly where he would like some work done, usually by presenting his hind end or by extending his right fore.
Anne has worked with horses of different ages and breeds including Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, draught crosses, Quarter Horses, Arabs, Haflingers, ponies and minis. She has worked with school horses, hunters, jumpers, dressage horses, Western horses, pleasure horses, retired and arthritic horses and recently mares with young foals. She has worked with horses with performance issues, horses recovering from injury or illness (with vet approval), horses coming back into work, horses on trial, stressed horses and horses that just needed some TLC. Whether working with owners, trainers, or barn managers, Anne tailors her approach to meet the horse’s unique requirements.
Anne brings a systems-oriented mindset with her background in high tech, ensuring she sees the big picture and works seamlessly with your horse’s care team. MM is most effective when integrated with other care strategies, and Anne takes pride in being a voice for the horse during these collaborations.
Bilingual and based in rural Ottawa, Anne feels privileged to bring her passion and expertise to help more horses and owners in the area. She looks forward to making every horse feel truly understood.
