At the age of 3, my Aunt put me on top of her 17 hand OTTB and I was hooked for life. After many years of competition, and owning several horses, I always felt something was missing, a connection, a way to make horses feel better. Then at age 45, I began to volunteer at a therapeutic center near my home in the Hudson Valley in NY. I started to feel that the horses seemed so stressed after lessons. The amazing super heroes, therapeutic lesson horses, how could I help them? And after some searching on the internet I learned about Jim Masterson, and the Masterson Method®. I knew immediately this is what I had been searching for, a way to give back to my horse and to be more connected.
Shortly thereafter I began my journey. I became a PATH Certified Riding Instructor and then took the plunge and signed up for a 2-day Masterson Method course.
We then moved from New York to the state of Delaware, found a new therapeutic home in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and started a ground work based program for Veterans and First Responders. I was able to see first-hand that equine assisted programing was a great way for Veterans and First Responders to release stress and help them heal emotionally. I knew Masterson Method would be such a wonderful way for the veterans and first responders to give back to the horse, and in return the horse would help them to heal. For me it has always been about the horse, how can I make them feel better, release stress, help with muscle soreness, and provide better overall health and wellness. To be able to combine my deep commitment to helping Veterans and First Responders and horses at the same time is a gift I could only dream about once. The fact I am able to give back to both; my students and the therapeutic lesson horse is truly my dream come true.
