Toby’s passion for horses came at a very young age, along with the belief that all horses are great teachers. From early days breaking and training his own ponies, Toby has always put the horse first, and as a lifelong professional horseman he has consistently strived to improve his own skill set, in order to enhance his communication and connection with horses.
Throughout a career with thoroughbreds spanning over 35 years, Toby has worked both professionally and privately with thousands of different horses, from the world class equine athletes in his daily care, through to competition horses from multiple disciplines, feral and unhandled horses, tiny ponies and an occasional mule. He has started more youngsters under saddle than he can even remember, and has taken his skills around the world with working trips to Australia, Mexico, South Africa and the US.
Toby discovered The Masterson Method® through following the work of Mark Rashid, and it has turned out to be the perfect addition to his daily work life, teaching horsemanship and helping horses and owners in need. His wealth of experience and finely honed expertise makes him well equipped to advise on the physical causes of behavioral issues. He views every new situation with fresh eyes, strives to always meet people ‘where they are’, and really enjoys coming up with tailor-made solutions to complement each case.
Toby has worked closely for many years with industry professionals – vets and vet nurses, farriers and barefoot trimmers, physios and dentists, racehorse trainers and work riders, as well as a wide range of regular competitors, leisure riders and sanctuaries.
