It all started when I was 7 years old taking my first horseback riding lesson at Aledal Dressage Center in my native Sweden. I mainly rode dressage growing up, but also did some show jumping, the Swedish version of fox hunting and lots of trail riding in the Swedish forests (often encountering large moose herds!), as well as swimming with my horses in the Baltic Sea. Once I came to the U.S. to attend college, I did some eventing and a few years later I turned to all dressage. Over the many years to follow I competed in dressage through FEI. I always prioritized a harmonious relationship based on trust with my equine partners. I incorporated lots of ground work as well as liberty work to encourage curiosity as well as to build partnership and most importantly have fun with my equine partners!
In addition to being certified in The Masterson Method®, I am also certified in Equine Massage and EAGALA (horse professional handling horses during Equine Assisted Psychotherapy). I’ve volunteered at one of the largest equine hospitals in the U.S., travelled with acupuncture and chiropractic veterinarians, volunteered at various Therapeutic Riding Centers, and worked with wild mustangs after they had been rounded up at an equine assisted therapy center. I continue to explore and evolve in my horsemanship journey.
In the past few years, I have taken on a few horses that needed rehabilitation (mostly from being pushed too fast in their training). I no longer show horses, and while rehabilitating my latest horse I came across the Masterson Method (he came to me with more issues than I could have ever imagined – and I needed a modality to help him trust humans again). The Masterson Method has truly changed the way I ride and handle horses – in addition to being an amazing modality I believe all horses could benefit from. Seeing the amazing releases of tension along with the increased mobility and comfort for our equine partners has been life changing!
