Daniel Dauphin

Daniel grew up in Louisiana and not in a horsey family. Independent and hard working, he bought his own first horse at the age of 15 without his parents knowing about it. He spent a total of 6 years apprenticing under cutting horse trainers. He’s been a part of the journey for horses winning major titles and cumulatively well over a million bucks. This year will be his 31st as a horse professional, though he’s been concentrating on clinics more than training for the last 14 years.

He’s started loads of colts and dealt with thousands of horses from the gambit of breeds and disciplines. He started college in, and spent a couple of years studying Mechanical Engineering before changing majors. Daniel has a B.S. in Animal Science with a specialty in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and a minor in Chemistry. This combination of subjects and experiences has greatly influenced his perspective on how and why bits function.

His common sense and critical thinking presentation style is infused with humor and science. Best known for his teachings on bits, Daniel created “The Bit Video” and “The Bit Course” which strive to reveal what happens on the other end of the reins and show the public that a happy mouth involves a lot more than just a well fit bit. He also has the long form podcast, “Adult Onset Horsemanship” where lively, interesting, and sometime challenging conversations take place to explore all he can about this world of the horse.
