(Devon/Somerset) Jane came to equine bodywork from a background of dressage riding/training/judging, particularly classical dressage. She is constantly seeking to further her knowledge of the horse's musculature and biomechanics, and of how best to help both horse and rider to greater ease, comfort and efficiency of movement.

Jane originally qualified as an equine massage therapist, but the search for more 'tools for her box' led her to the Masterson Method®. Having seen a clip of Jim working on the internet, she tried a little work on her own horses and was so impressed by their responses that she immediately ordered the Beyond Horse Massage DVD and book, and booked herself onto all the courses! She has never looked back, qualifying as a Certified Practitioner in October 2016. She continues to be amazed by horses' responses to this gentle interactive method and by the improvements it can bring about. Jane has also undertaken further training in myofascial release techniques (with Dawn McCaig), and incorporates some of those into her work with horses, finding them highly complementary to the Masterson techniques.

Jane is also a BHSAI, a UKCC Level 2 instructor and a List 5 BD judge, with extensive experience of working with and learning from world-class instructors. She has worked in Scotland with classical trainer Sylvia Loch, and had three years' daily training with international rider/trainer/judge Dimitar Stoyanov at a Trakehner stud farm in Bulgaria. Other learning opportunities have included (to name but a few): attendance at Anja Beran's 2014 international dressage workshop in Germany; instruction under Georges Malleroni in Portugal; numerous clinics/talks/workshops with Charles de Kunffy; lectures/clinics with Dr Gerd Heuschmann; and conferences, biomechanics training and dissections with Gillian Higgins of Horses Inside Out.

As well as performing equine bodywork, Jane continues to teach and judge, and finds that the Masterson principle of staying under the horse's brace response is invaluable in training, whether on the ground or in the saddle. As an instructor, Jane particularly enjoys working with grass-roots combinations and using dressage exercises, as well as therapeutic groundwork alongside the bodywork, to help the more 'ordinary' horse to become a more comfortable and responsive ride, whether for hacking, all-round pleasure or competition. She is also a Level 3 Pilates Instructor and through Pilates seeks to help riders improve their body awareness and control, another vital component in the horse/rider relationship.

Jane lives on the Devon/Somerset border and travels throughout both counties. She can be contacted on 07711 130371., or through her website: www.flexiblehorse.co.uk, or her Facebook page: 'Flexible Horse - Jane Penfold'.
