(Guelph, Ontario, Canada) After a long hiatus between childhood and adult riding, Kathy got reacquainted with horses during a trip to Iceland in 1996. The purpose of the trip was to explore her Icelandic heritage but the introduction to this hardy, smooth-gaited and personable breed was an unexpected bonus! A few years later, her Icelandic mare Blida found her new home in Canada. Saddle-fitting challenges and a diagnosis of PSSM (Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy - an equine muscle disorder) led Kathy to investigate various kinds of bodywork to help improve Blida's chances of a longer riding life. The Masterson Method, with its "less is more" approach and emphasis on reading subtle signs from the horse, has had a huge impact on Blida's well-being. In 2008, Blida's foal Magni was born, and he too has benefited greatly from his Masterson sessions.
Kathy's Equine Science Certificate from the University of Guelph, along with courses and clinics in TTouch and Equi-Bow, will complement her Masterson Method training.
Kathy looks forward to expanding her Masterson Method practice in Ontario, Canada.
