  3. Maureen Keenan, MMCP
Location:
North East, Maryland, United States
Description:

Maureen grew up in Baldwin, Maryland, a rural area north of Baltimore. She began riding at age 8 and had her own pony, an Arabian/Welsh cross, by age 11. She competed in 4-H and local hunter competitions with her pony and then her Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred (QH/TB) until her late teens. She attended the College of Notre Dame of Maryland (now Notre Dame of Maryland University) in Baltimore and maintained ownership of her horse and continued to ride throughout college and while working to establish a career. In 2004, Maureen bought a young Arabian/Selle Franais gelding to replace her retired QH/TB. Seven month later, she also acquired his full sister, whose residual physical issues from an accident with a barbed wire fence as a young horse prompted her to explore bodywork, eventually leading her to The Masterson Method® in late 2012. She honed her skills by working on her own and friends' horses on evenings and weekends, achieving final certification in June 2016.

Maureen works part-time primarily on horses in Cecil and Harford Counties, MD; New Castle County, DE; Chester County, PA; and Salem, Gloucester, and Mercer Counties, New Jersey. In her spare time, she enjoys trail riding in the nearby Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area, improving her flat work and jumping skills, and expanding her bodywork skills and knowledge of equine anatomy and alternative therapies for horses. Maureen has a particular and personal interest in Lyme Disease and EPM in horses. Current members of her herd include an off-the-track Thoroughbred gelding, a Dutch Warmblood gelding, an Irish Draught Sport Horse gelding, and a Hackney pony gelding.
